Mina Patel, Ph.D., is Global Head of Publications, Open Health Group. Her previous role was as Senior Director, Global Scientific Communications, Alexion Pharmaceuticals Incorporated where she led the strategy and development of all publications-related activities in several rare disease. As a leader of scientific/medical communications teams within mid-size pharmaceutical companies, she has been responsible for developing and executing scientific publications and presentations for marketed products and those in development across a number of therapeutic areas, including rare diseases, pain management, CNS disorders, immune disorders, respiratory disease, virology, and oncology. She gained extensive experience through diverse leadership positions in areas ranging from pre-clinical drug discovery research to medical strategy to scientific/medical communications within the pharmaceutical and allied industries. Dr. Patel began her career in drug discovery as a post-doctoral scientist at GlaxoSmithKline in the United Kingdom. After ten years in research, she started her career in medical communications as a professional medical writer and team leader in medical communications agencies in the UK. Dr. Patel is a co-author of Good Publication Practice (GPP2), a steering committee member on the recently published GGP3 and is actively involved with ISMPP (past member of the Board of Trustees), TIPPA, and CBI congresses. She has over 18 years of experience in the field of scientific/medical communications and publications in both an agency and industry environment. Her comprehensive perspective on the field stems from this direct experience on both sides of the fence.
